Baramulla, Dec. 19: On Tuesday, the Government Medical College Baramulla hosted a day-long Continuing Medical Education (CME) event hosted by the Centre for Health Research and Innovation (CHRI) in an effort to battle TB.

The CME’s main topic was PMTPT, or programmatic management of tuberculosis preventive treatment, a cutting-edge idea that is essential to India’s NTEP (National Tuberculosis Elimination Program).
The event was undertaken under the auspices of Project JEET (Joint Effort for Elimination of Tuberculosis), a worldwide fund-supported initiative, and was carried out in association with the Department of Chest Medicine at GMC Baramulla.

Professor Dr. Naveed Nazir, the chairman of the State Task Force Committee for NTEP J&K, Professor Dr. Ruby Reshi, the principal of GMC Baramulla, Professor Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, the medical superintendent of AHGMC Baramulla, department heads, senior faculty members, postgraduate students, and representatives from NTEP were among those present.

In his thorough presentation on PMTPT, Dr. Shumail Bashir, Associate Professor and Nodal Officer for NTEP at GMC Baramulla, clarified the treatment protocol for screening high-risk groups and emphasized the significance of contact tracing among patients who are actively ill with TB.

Dr. Wasim Iqbal, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, also spoke at the event. He emphasized the importance of the PMTPT program and addressed the difficulties in detecting TB in youngsters.

The State Task Committee for NTEP Chairman, Dr. Naveed Nazir Shah, discussed the difficulties in managing TB. In high-risk groups, he emphasized the critical significance of TB preventive treatment (TPT) and asked medical practitioners to follow PMTPT standards for latent tuberculosis screening.

In her inaugural speech, Professor Dr. Ruby Reshi praised the organizers for tackling a pressing issue in national public health and providing faculty members with an update on the most recent developments in NTEP-related diagnostic and treatment services.

The head of the GMC Baramulla TB Core Committee, Professor Dr. Abdul Majid, emphasized outreach health initiatives carried out in several places and spoke about current community awareness campaigns about tuberculosis preventive strategies.

The district supervisor for Project JEET, Kifayat Wani, gave information on how the PMTPT program is being implemented in the Baramulla area.

A lively question-and-answer period followed the lecture to encourage conversation among attendees and acknowledge their significant contributions to the advancement of TB prevention in the region.
