The Lok Sabha secretariat said on Monday that Gandhi’s disqualification, which had been decreed on March 24 of this year, stands removed in light of the Supreme Court ruling of August 4.

Gandhi’s conviction in a defamation lawsuit was postponed on August 4 by the Supreme Court.

He lost his right to sit in the Lok Sabha after receiving a two-year jail term, the maximum allowed by law, from a court in Surat.

Gandhi had first appealed to the Supreme Court after the Gujarat High Court had denied a stay of the conviction.
