According to official sources, the young man reportedly killed himself by hanging himself in the police cell at Surankote Police Station a few days ago. He was first taken to a local hospital and then sent to the GMC Associated Hospital in Rajouri. Unfortunately, he died last night from his injuries.

The cops nabbed him in connection with FIR No. 314/2023 under Sections 376 and 356 of the Indian Penal Code, according to official sources.

A young person’s death led to a protest at the headquarters of the Surankote sub-division, where the family of the victim said that the death had strange undertones. The dead person’s family asked for a full investigation into their death to find out all the details.

As part of the investigation, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mendhar, Mohd Jahangir Khan, was named as the inquiry officer by District Magistrate Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary.

“SDM Mendhar is hereby appointed as inquiry officer to conduct a comprehensive magisterial inquiry into the incident and circumstances leading to the custodial death of Ulfat Hussain,” the official order from DM Poonch reads.
