Ramban, July 30: On Sunday, Ramban police, with the aid of the SDRF and neighbourhood volunteers, pulled the corpse of an accident victim from the Chenab River in the Khowbagh neighbourhood of Ramban.

According to police, a road accident victim’s corpse was found near Ramban’s Khowbagh neighborhood’s Chenab River. They said that several bystanders saw the deceased trapped in an accidently parked car in the river and called the police.

After receiving information, a police team comprised of the SDRF, local volunteers, and SHO Police Station Ramban arrived at the scene and removed the corpse and the accident car. The corpse was thereafter moved to the District Hospital mortuary for the purposes of the post-mortem and other legal requirements.

The deceased was identified as Bharat Singh, 52, a resident of Teli Majra Seri, Ramban, and the driver of a mini-load carrier Auto with the licence plate JK19-9605 that had rolled into the Chenab River on July 7 near Mehar on the highway, killing three passengers and leaving three more people missing.

However, on Sunday, the driver’s and the car’s bodies were found around 3 KM distant from the scene of the accident. According to them, the corpse was discovered fastened to the car’s seat belt.

Inspector Nayeem Matoo, SHO of Police Station Ramban, verified the claim and said that the corpse was given to the families for final rites after legal medical procedures were completed on Sunday afternoon.
