Kangan, July 29: On Saturday morning, a cloudburst in the higher reaches of the Preng forest region in the Kangan tehsil of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district sparked flashfloods that partially damaged several homes and a mosque.

An official said that flash floods struck Preng’s Gujarpati neighbourhood in the early hours, forcing the water to penetrate a few homes and a mosque, partially damaging it.

A police team, villagers, and the civil administration launched a rescue and evacuation operation in the region shortly after receiving the information. According to accounts, the nearby government elementary school was also devastated by the flash floods.

To examine the situation and keep an eye on restoration and rehabilitation efforts, SDM Kangan Javid Ahmad Rather, Tehsildar Kangan Dr. Haroon Rashid, and SHO Kangan Zahoor Ahmed arrived at the scene.

At least six affected households have been relocated to a nearby safe location, according to Tehsildar Kangan, Dr. Haroon Rashid, who also said that at least four JCB machines are working on the repair project. Fortunately, no lives have been lost in the event, the source stated.
