Kupwara, Nov. 2: On Thursday, at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Handwara, at least thirteen female pupils unintentionally breathed in pepper gas spray, which caused them to pass out.

According to a representative of the Government Females Higher Secondary School in Handwara, a self-defence training with pepper spray kits for females was recently conducted at the school by an NGO.
A small number of females were able to grab kits with pepper spray, even though the pepper gas spray had been taken out and placed under school control. The gear was in the backpack of one of the females, who had pepper spray on hand. This afternoon, 13 girls lost consciousness as a result of pepper gas spreading across the classroom as a result of a container breach. They were sent to the Handwara District Hospital, he added.

He assured everyone that the girls were secure and that they shouldn’t be concerned.

“After providing them with appropriate care, all of the girls have been released,” he said.
