Kupwara, August 14: On Monday, a movie was shown at the recently opened cinema hall inside the grounds of Municipal Committee Handwara, reviving the community after an absence of more than three decades.
Early in the morning, people from all walks of life assembled at the theatre to recreate the moment they used to treasure before the advent of terrorism in the Kashmir valley.
People from various schools, PRIs, and local youngsters took in the screenings of the Shahrukh Khan starring film “Chak De India” in a series of performances.
Before the terrorism in Kashmir began, we used to watch films in the theatres. Later, most of the theatres were set on fire by miscreants in the name of independence. An elderly resident of Main Town, Handwara told Greater Kashmir that the LG administration had taken a good initiative by building such a lovely cinema facility there.
Relevantly, the Kashmir Valley’s theatres were shut down following the rise in militancy in the early 1990s.
A vibrant cultural performance was held before to the movie’s showing and was coordinated by the district administration with the assistance of Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Nazir Ahmad Mir. Tehsidar Handwara, Chairman Municipality Handwara, District Information Officer Kupwara, SHO Handwara, Deputy CEO Kupwara, and other Officers were present for the performance put on by the students of Balashram and Narinakatan.
The Departments of Horticulture, Agriculture, Handicrafts, Handloom, and Social Welfare set up various stalls to display the traditional handicrafts and organic products of district Kupwara.
Relevantly, LG Manoj Sinha e-opened the Cinema cum Multipurpose Hall on July 16 to give people access to a big-screen experience.
