Enoch Nkwe, the director of cricket for South Africa, said that Quinton de Kock has done a great deal for the national team’s game. With his aggressive hitting approach, he established the standard and for many years, he was an important component of the team.

He also donned the captain’s armband, which is a title that not many individuals are given the opportunity to wear. We appreciate his contribution throughout the years and fully respect his choice to retire from ODI cricket. We want the best for him in the future, but we still hope to see him play for the Proteas in T20I cricket,” he said.

De Kock has played 140 games for the squad since his debut in 2013. De Kock has scored 5966 runs while averaging 44.85 and having a 96.08 strike rate. With a career-high score of 178 against Australia at Centurion in 2016, he has 17 hundreds and 29 fifty-sixes to his credit.

He has 14 stumpings in addition to 183 catches as a wicket keeper. South Africa was also led by De Kock in eight one-day internationals, winning four and losing three.

On October 7 in Delhi, South Africa will face Sri Lanka in the start of their World Cup campaign.
