Srinagar, October 24: The President of the Apni Party, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, said on Tuesday that his party would prioritise reversing the decision to discontinue the Darbar Move if it were ever voted to power.

Bukhari is quoted as saying that the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party is “fully behind the legitimate demand of the people of Jammu seeking a reversal of the decision regarding the discontinuation of the ‘Darbar Move’ decision.” It should be noted for the record that the Apni Party will make addressing this issue a top priority if and when it wins power.

Notably, the age-old custom of the Darbar Move was abolished by the current administration in J&K, which is headed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The reason given for this was that it placed an unneeded strain on the state exchequer. However, the decision has been met with harsh condemnation from Jammu communities, who are demanding that this custom be revived without delay. (KNS)
