Srinagar, July 24: To commemorate 24 years of victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999 and to highlight the indomitable spirit of women, the Armed Forces launched the Nari Sashaktikaran Women Motorbike Rally on 18 July from the National War Memorial in New Delhi to the Kargil War Memorial in Dras. The rally arrived in Srinagar from Udhampur on July 22 and is scheduled to arrive in Drass on July 26.

According to an army official, the demonstration arrived in Srinagar on the evening of July 22, when it was met by Maj Gen PBS Lamba, GOC 31 Sub Area.

The rally made three stops in Jammu and Kashmir on its way to Srinagar, at Chandrakote, Banihal, and Wuzur. On the 23rd of July, the rally team visited a school event to meet with APS students and NCC Cadets.

Members of the rally gave motivational speeches and exhibited movies on the Kargil War to inspire the young and promote pride in the Armed Forces. The event was honoured by the presence of a huge number of veterans. Sub Maj Sanjay Kumar, PVC, Mr Vishal Batra, and Sub Azim Khan (Retd) also share their Kargil War experiences of courage and friendship. Rally team members laid a wreath at the War Memorial at BB Cantt on July 24th.

Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, GOC 15 Corps, and Mrs Savita Ghai, Zonal President AWWA, congratulated the entire team for taking on the task as part of the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations, and added that the Rally would go a long way in motivating the youth, particularly girls, in Kashmir to join the armed forces and to face the challenges that life presents. Two Veer Naris, one of whom is a current officer, 11 serving Indian Army women officers, two women officers from the Indian Air Force, one from the Indian Navy, two women soldiers from the Indian Army, and eight wives of serving and retired military personnel comprise the 25-member squad. The participants are riding on TVS Group’s new 250cc Ronin motorbikes, and the automotive company is actively partnering with the Army to ensure the event’s success. The rally was waved off by GOC, 15 Corps on the morning of July 24th towards Dras. On the festival of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ on July 26, 2023, the motorcycle rally will conclude at the Kargil War Memorial.
