Dilbag Singh, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, went to Base Camp Yatri Niwas in Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, on Friday to inspect the security measures and other amenities for the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims. During his inspection, the DGP mingled with both the pilgrims and the cops, according to the police media centre’s official statement.

The DGP looked over the security measures put in place to protect the yatris at the camp during his visit. The officers gave him a briefing on the deployment strategies, the control of yatri boarding and housing, and the security measures in place inside and outside the camp.

The DGP highlighted the need to keep a watchful eye on the base camp and its environs and that the time schedule and directions governing the movement of yatra convoys should be properly followed. He evaluated the camp’s traffic control procedures as well. The DGP stressed to the officers the need to adhere strictly to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and directives given for the security of yatris.

“Security measures should be implemented effectively, the security of all key areas of the camp should be reviewed at random, and officers and officials should be instructed to take any necessary action that is discovered,” he stated. Along with interacting with them, he asked the pilgrims about the amenities and accommodations offered. The pilgrims acknowledged their appreciation for the arrangement as a whole.

The DGP assessed the services offered to ensure that yatris’ pilgrimages were easy and hassle-free when interacting with the police. A number of gazetted police officials, including SP North Jammu Kulbir Handa, SSP Jammu Chandan Kholi, SSP Security Jammu Shemsher Hussain, SSP Traffic Jammu Faisal Qureshi, and others, were present.

Notably, the Amarnath Yatra begins on July 1 each year. The 62-day journey to the Amarnath cave, where Lord Shiva resides, will come to an end on August 31. (ANI)
