Awantipora, September 19: As part of a week-long programme to raise awareness about environmental pollution, with a focus on ozone depletion specifically, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) and the Peoples Environmental Council (PEC) held a painting competition today. At the occasion, more than a hundred children from different schools in Pulwama, Srinagar, and Kulgam took part.
The IUST Registrar, Professor Naseer Iqbal, welcomed the students with a warm welcome and emphasised the crucial necessity of environmental conservation. He emphasised that everyone has a duty to ensure the preservation of the environment and advised the participants to develop a caring approach towards it.
IUST’s Dean of Students, Dr. Asifa Baba, talked about the institution’s multiple campaigns to raise public awareness of environmental degradation and the possible repercussions if prompt action is not taken.
The competition was organised by Dr. Athar-Ud-Din, head of the Centre for International Relations, and Mehraan Qureshi, head of the architecture department.
