The event occurred when the lady was crossing the street. A senior police officer said that she died instantly due to the severity of her wounds.

People, including the victims’ loved ones, gathered at Lamber to protest after hearing about the disaster. Citizens stopped the national highway between Srinagar and Jammu in protest.

Since the completion of four-lane work by the relevant construction firm, NHAI, people have reportedly been asking for a foot overbridge or pedestrian overbridge. Police personnel had previously promised us that a bridge would be built for students’ use. They complained that “to this day,” construction on the pedestrian bridge has not begun.

Inspector Muhammad Afzal Wani, SDM Zahir Abbas, and DySP Nisar Khoja of Banihal later arrived on the scene and promised to address the residents’ concerns.

Protesters dispersed on the promise, and the corpse was sent to SDH Banihal for an autopsy and other required procedures.

Toll Post Banihal on National Highway 44 was closed for many hours as a result of the protest.

The car was confiscated, and the driver was detained, according to the SHO of Police Station Banihal.

Meanwhile, Mussarat Islam, the District Magistrate of Ramban, has requested an investigation into the woman’s death.

“An inquiry officer has been assigned by Sub Divisional Magistrate, Banihal, Zahir Abbas, to investigate the event that resulted in the death of a lady today at Lamber, close to Toll Plaza Banihal. DM issued an order that said, “The Inquiry officer shall investigate all aspects of the case and submit his detailed report or findings to this office within 7 days.”

In a subsequent letter, the District Magistrate of Ramban drew the attention of the Project Director of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to “the past communications and requests for considering the demand of the local people for construction of an overbridge on NH-44 at strategic places in Ramban, including Asher, Chareel, Lamber, Chanderkote, etc., so that the local people have hassle-free access in movement from one place to another.”

After the SDM Banihal assured the demonstrators that their demands would be met, DM Ramban requested that the NHAI Project Director “start the construction of an overbridge near Toll Plaza Lamber.”

Those living in the surrounding communities would have their “genuine demand” met thanks to this, he added.
