On Thursday, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice N Kotiswar Singh, visited the district of Budgam and toured the ‘Pareesha’ childcare facility for girls in Khan Sahab to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.

An official spokesperson said in a statement that the chief justice’s visit, his second in a row, was a testament to India’s progress towards an inclusive and equitable society, marked by warmth, compassion, and a commitment to improving the living conditions of the inmates of childcare institutions.

The top justice was greeted warmly upon his arrival by the ‘Pareesha’ superintendent and other staff members.

The chief justice at the time conducted a comprehensive inspection of the prison’s facilities.

In response to the young women’s hopes and worries, he told them that they would be addressed as soon as possible.

To mark and celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, the prisoners of the facility held a painting competition and presented a variety of cultural objects.

The chief justice was brought to tears by the young painters’ bright brushstrokes on the canvas, which captured the spirit and unity of their subject matter.

The youngsters of ‘Pareesha’ sang a touching choral tribute to the chief justice and the other visitors, adding a musical touch to the festivities.

The words resounded with appreciation and hope for a better future. The performance was memorable because it highlighted the energy and promise of today’s youth.

There were also prominent authorities of the district government and members of the legal fraternity there, including the Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice, M K Sharma; the PDJ of Budgam, Khalil Choudhary; the SSP of Budgam, Al-Tahir Geelani; the Superintendent of the Child Care Home; the Chairperson of the CWC; and others.
