Israel – Hamas War : Delhi police alert

The Delhi Police will be out in full force on Friday afternoon to ensure the safety of worshippers. Jewish community centres and the Israeli embassy have also increased security.

The continuing conflict in Israel between Israeli security forces and the Palestinian group Hamas has reached a new level of intensity, prompting authorities in New Delhi to sound a security alert in anticipation of the possibility of demonstrations taking place in the nation’s capital.
During the prayers that take place on Fridays, members of the Delhi Police will be out in force patrolling the streets. Additionally, security measures have been strengthened at Jewish religious institutions as well as at the Israel Embassy.

This comes after a number of nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, increased security around “potential Jewish targets” and “pro-Palestinian protesters” in light of the rising level of violence in Israel.

On Thursday, in the wake of Hamas’s horrific attack on Israel, France made the decision to prohibit any and all pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the name of maintaining public order. Those who oppose the ban believe that it violates people’s rights to freedom of expression and assembly.

More than 1,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza as a direct result of Israel’s furious response to Hamas’s unexpected land-sea-air offensive, which had already claimed the lives of 1,300 Israelis. Soon after the Hamas attack began, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a “state of war” and pledged to reduce Gaza to rubble. This occurred shortly after the attack began.

Earlier today, the first evacuation flight as part of Operation Ajay arrived in New Delhi. On board were Indian nationals who had become trapped in Israel as a result of the current conflict.
