Bandipora, Oct. 8: Gurez’s Bagtore block’s connecting roads in the hamlet of Kanzalwan are a complete mess.

According to locals, two of the roads linking Tarbal and Bajran’s settlements, as well as another link road connecting Bagtore to Refugee, have been in disrepair for more than seven years.

Mukhtar Ahmad Lone, the chairman of the Block Development Council (BDC) Bagtore Kanzalwan, said that the roads leading to these settlements had been in terrible condition for a number of years.

The winters, he said, made things worse for the peasants since “no snow clearing machines would run on the road to clear the snow.”

The people said that they were unable to access emergencies, particularly health-related ones, due to the road obstruction.

They said that despite several requests to the local authorities, “no officer paid heed to our pleas” to macadamise the roads, which were between 800 metres and 1 km in length.

According to Lone, the connection roads were macadamized before 2017.

In order for residents to breathe a sigh of relief before winter sets in, Lone and a group of locals appealed to the administration and higher authorities in the area to address their complaints.
