Srinagar, September 19: At an excellent interactive event organised on Tuesday at Ahata Waqar Chanapora, the centre for day care and leisure for elderly residents, eminent physician, author, and poet Dr. Gazanfar Ali Gazal was recognised for his contributions to the fields of literature, poetry, and medicine. The District Legal Services Authority in Srinagar and the Directorate of Health Services in Kashmir are in charge of running the centre.

Molvi Muhammad Ahsaan began the elegant event’s proceedings by reciting passages from the holy Quran.

District and Session Judge (Retd) M. Y. Akhoon, Convenor, Sahitya Academy, Kashmiri Advisory Board, Prof (Dr) Shaad Ramzaan, renowned historian and author Prof. Farooq Fayaz, President Markaz Adab Kamraz, Mohd Amin Bhat, and Chairman Ahata Waqar, Abdul Gani Parray were among the individuals who shared the podium.

Many older citizens from many walks of life, as well as authors, poets, cultural activists, members of the medical community, and members of the judicial system, attended the interactive programme.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Gazanfar Ali expressed his thanks to the Ahata Waqar Chanapora-led Senior Citizens Forum for commemorating him for his contributions to poetry, literature, and medicine. He advised the younger generation to learn from the wisdom of the older age in order to live a wonderful life. He emphasised the necessity for elders’ personal care, noting that they also need assistance, chances for social contact, and medication management. He provided some fundamental advice that the elderly needed in order to maintain their fitness. He emphasised the need of conserving Kashmiri culture, literature, and language.

Dr. Gazanfar sent sets of his numerous books to Ahata Waqr for its library so that older persons might read them on this special occasion. In order to maintain our identity, he stated it was crucial to preserve the Kashmiri language, literature, and tradition.

Prof. Shaad Ramzan highlighted the value of knowing the elders while shedding light on the depth of Kashmiri poetry and literature. Additionally, he recognised distinctive elements in Dr. Gazanfar Ali’s poetry.

As responsible members of society, Prof. Farooq Fayaz said during his speech that “we have a collective obligation to respect elderly persons.” He also pushed for the revival of society’s rapidly dwindling moral standards as well as the necessity to respect seniors.

Mushtaq Mehram and Inayat Gul, two renowned poets and authors, studied in-depth analytical works on the complex personality of Dr. Gazanfar that gave them profound insights into his enormous contributions to the fields of literature, poetry, and medicine.

On this occasion, speakers Mohd Amin Bhat, Ali Ahsan, and Gh Nabi Adfar shed light on many facets of Dr. Gazanfar’s complex personality.

Er. Khazir Mohd Trag moderated the programme in a befitting manner and apprised the august gathering about the objectives of Ahata Waqar to address the problems of senior citizens. He praised government initiatives taken for welfare of the senior citizens.

Chairman Ahata Waqar Abdul Gani Parray presented a vote of thanks.
