The Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA) held a meeting of its apex body, the Guidance Council, on August 25 in Srinagar, presided over by Sachin Tickoo, the association’s president, and Peerzada Hidayatullah, the organization’s general secretary. Both Jammu and Srinagar were represented at the meeting.

According to the announcement made by JKEEGA, the Guidance Council has discussed the excessive time it has taken to fill the open posts and how this has affected the mood of the engineering community.

On this occasion, Er. Pirzada Hidayatullah updated the audience on the fact that all three of JKPTCL’s most senior positions—the Managing Director, the Chief Engineer, and the Superintending Engineer—will soon be open. JKEEGA has been following up on HR concerns on a regular basis, as we were told, and despite repeated assurances to the contrary, these problems have yet to be resolved. A petition signed by more than 300 in-charge engineers from around J&K was also delivered to the LG of the state’s technical university to bring attention to the problems that engineers confront.

There have been major problems with regularisation, filling promotions against open positions, and hiring at the Junior Engineer level for a long time.

According to the report, “there has not been a single regular promotion granted to the entire Engineers presently working in various Power Corporations.” Assistant Engineers and Superintending Engineers are the substantive grades held by the Chief Engineers, while Junior Engineers are the substantive grade held by those below them. There is a massive amount of open positions across the board since the in-charge placements have been stopped.

Therefore, in an emergency meeting held today, the Guidance Council of JKEEGA of both Jammu and Kashmir regions resolved that on September 9th, all graduate engineers of the J&K Power Development Department would submit a request for one day of protest leave to the Government and then gather at the PDD complex in Jammu and the Bemina in Srinagar to peacefully protest the Government’s lack of seriousness in addressing their legitimate demands.
