In November of 2023, the charters of both companies will expire. In September and October of 2018, general elections were conducted for both organisations.

It was decided to revise/update the municipal electoral rolls for these corporations with reference to 01-07-2023 as the qualifying date, per an order issued by the J&K government. This was done because, per Rule 12 of the J&K, Municipal Corporation (Elections) rules, 2003, the electoral rolls must be revised in the prescribed manner before the conduct of each general election to the corporations or for any ward or for a by-election to fill a casual vacancy in such ward.

The decree sets the date of draught electoral roll publishing as 01 August 2023. Claims and objections must be submitted between August 1 and August 13. The date of the final release of voter lists has been set for August 25.
