On July 26, in Srinagar: On Wednesday, the Union Government will present four significant measures to Parliament regarding quotas and electoral reservations in Jammu & Kashmir.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will propose a bill to alter the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, according to the updated schedule of business for the Lok Sabha, as reported by the news source Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

The bill aims to set aside three seats in the J&K Assembly, two for Kashmiri Pandits and one for refugees from Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

Additionally, a bill to alter the 2004 Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act would be introduced by the Union Home Minister.

State legislation is the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act of 2004. The term “Other Social Castes” is being changed to “Other Backward Classes” in the Parliament.

Scheduled to be introduced, a bill to modify the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order, 1989 will be presented by Union Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda.

The Paharis, Paddaris, Gadda Braman, and Koli tribes are seeking inclusion under the Constitution (Jammu & Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which aims to add the Valmiki community to the list of Scheduled Castes of Jammu and Kashmir, will be introduced by Union Minister for Social Justice Dr. Virendra Kumar.
