Mumbai, 31 July: A Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan shot and killed four passengers on a moving train from Jaipur to Mumbai on Monday morning in Maharashtra, according to authorities.

The Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express Train reached Palghar Station in Maharashtra before the policeman known as CT Chetan opened fire and fired at four passengers, including an RPF assistant sub-inspector (ASI), according to Western Railways.

According to reports from Western Railways, the accused cop and his firearm have both been taken into custody.

According to RPF representatives, the incident happened in the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express’ B5 carriage (Train No. 12956).

“It was reported on train no. 12956 at 5.23 on 31.7.23 that there had been a firing in B5 coach,” the RPF said in a statement. It was established that CT Chetan, who was on escort duty, had shot on ASI Tika Ram, who was in command of the escort. Three civilian deaths have also been confirmed, in addition to ASI, after the train landed in BVI, according to preliminary information. Senior DSC BCT is in route to the location.

“Police have located the policeman, and DCP North Government Railway Police has been notified. To be followed by a thorough report,” the RPF statement continued.
