Gabriel Jesus has been selected for Brazil’s World Cup qualifying matchups against Bolivia and Peru, the South American nation’s football organisation said on September 5.

According to Xinhua, the Arsenal attacker takes the position of Manchester United winger Antony, who was dismissed from the team after being accused of abusing his ex-girlfriend.

In Sunday’s 3-1 English Premier League victory against Manchester United at home, Jesus scored after coming off the bench with a knee injury.

Since the World Cup in Qatar the previous year, the 26-year-old has not competed for Brazil.

The Brazilian federation said in a statement that accusations “that need to be investigated” led to the decision to leave out Antony.

The 23-year-old called the claims “false” and pledged to prove his innocence in a statement posted on social media.

On Friday in Belem, Brazil will encounter Bolivia; on September 12 in Lima, it will meet Peru.
