Saturday, September 2, 2023, on the campus of Government College of Physical Education (GCOPE) in Ganderbal, there was a concluding ceremony for the University/College Level Sports Festival 2023 (Edition 2nd). Five thousand students from Kashmir Province’s four universities and thirty-three institutions took part in the event that kicked off on August 29 and ran for five days.

There were a total of ten activities during the festival, including male and female football, male and female volleyball, male and female basketball, male and female handball, female kho-kho, female table tennis, male and female tug-of-war, and a male and female cultural programme called Rouff.

GCOPE won seven trophies overall, including those for men’s and women’s handball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, kho-kho, tug-of-war, and the cultural programme rouff. GDC Pattan won the men’s football game. Women’s Tug of War saw GDC Ganderbal emerge victorious.

GDC Pattan won the men’s football championship, followed by GDC Ganderbal in second and GDC Baramulla in third.

GDC Bijbhera men’s volleyball team placed third. GCOPE Ganderbal placed first, followed by Government Degree College Baramulla in second and Government Degree College Pulwama in third, in the men’s handball competition. There were three Government schools that were in the top three in men’s basketball: Government College of Physical Education Gadoora Ganderbal, Government Degree College Baramulla, and Government Degree College Ganderbal. The men’s team from GCOPE Ganderbal won the Tug-of-War competition, followed by GDC Ganderbal in second and Government Degree College Tral in third.

Women’s varsity volleyball tournament results: AS College Srinagar came in third, followed by Women’s College M A Road and the Government College of Physical Education Gadoora Ganderbal. GCOPE came out on top in women’s table tennis, while Government College of Engineering & Technology and GDC Pulwama tied for second. GCOPE Ganderbal took first place in Kho-Kho (women), followed by Women’s College M A Road Srinagar in second and Government Degree College Sumbal in third. Women’s Tug-of-War saw GDC Ganderbal come out on top, followed by GCOPE Ganderbal in second and GDC Women’s Zakura in third. At an earlier Cultural Programme (Rouff) event, GCOPE Ganderbal came out on top, followed by Government Degree College Hajin in second and Government Degree College Pattan and Government Women’s College MA Road Srinagar in a tie for third.

The College Campus was the site of the closing cum price distribution event. The event’s Chief Guest was Nuzhat Ishfaq, the chairperson of the DDC in Ganderbal. There were a number of distinguished guests present, including the Additional District Development Commissioner, Chief Education Officer, Chief Planning Officer, District Treasury Officer, and ARTO of District Ganderbal. In addition, the Guest of Honour award went to the Principal of Degree College Ganderbal, the Principal of Women’s College M A Road, and the Principal of GDC Women’s Sopore.

The dazzling closing ceremony of the Festival was directed by Media Cordinator of the Department of YSS Azhar Hajini and TV Journlaist Iqra Akhoon. Guests included officials from the Ganderbal District’s Youth Services and other agencies.

The winners were handed their awards by DDC Ganderbal’s chair. Trophies and cash prizes (1st – Rs 10000/-, 2nd – Rs. 7000/-, 3rd – Rs.3000; in Table-Tennis – 1st – Rs 5000/-, 2nd – Rs.3000, 3rd – Rs.2000) were given to the top 10 winning, runner-up, and hard-liner teams.

The University of Technology (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir’s second annual Sports Festival 2023 (Edition 2) is an effort to provide young people in the region a venue to showcase their skills and an outlet for their boundless enthusiasm.
