The Indian government’s Department of Telecommunication is testing the Cell Broadcasting System with the following message: “This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE. There is nothing you need to do in response to this message. The National Disaster Management Authority has delivered this alert via the TEST Pan-India Emergency Alert System. A flash message received by many smartphone users states, “It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies.”

The Department of Telecommunication (C-DOT) sent the urgent alert over the Cell Broadcasting System to all Android phones at 1:35 p.m.

Many people who got the notice on their phones posted about it on Twitter (now X).

I received a Government Emergency Severe Beep Alert on my Cell Phone! Interesting! A user said, “Now came Twice; first in English, then in Hindi.”

Like you, I got it. I just received a new one that says. Warning of extreme emergency. Until 12:14 a.m. Central Daylight Time, this region is under a police warning. Do we have any idea what this means? user 2 commented.

Regular testing will be done in different locations to evaluate the efficacy of emergency warning broadcasts through mobile operators and cell broadcast systems, as mandated by the Cell Broadcasting System by the Department of Telecommunication.

To better prepare for natural catastrophes like earthquakes, tsunamis, and flash floods, the government is cooperating with the National Disaster Management Authority. The administration piloted the same warning with some users in the nation last month.
