The Salal-Haimana region of Reasi has 5.9 million metric tonnes of lithium deposits, which the Geological Survey of India certified on February 9 of this year, making it the first such find in the nation.

This finding fits with the efforts being made by the Indian government to ensure a steady supply of lithium, a necessary component for batteries used in electric vehicles.

Foreign miners have shown interest in taking part in the next auction. In addition, the state-owned joint venture KABIL, which specialises in mineral exploration overseas, is almost ready to buy lithium blocks in Argentina. With respect to the purchase of a lithium block, preliminary conversations are also being held with the government of Chile.

India, a major producer of greenhouse gas emissions, has been aggressively seeking international agreements to get crucial minerals from countries with abundant natural resources like Australia, Argentina, and Chile.

The finding of lithium is expected to have a substantial positive impact on the local economy and open up work chances for the region’s young unemployed people, according to officials in Jammu and Kashmir. According to experts, this finding has enormous potential for both the socioeconomic growth of Jammu and Kashmir and the promotion of national science.
