According to them, the town’s streetlights have been out of commission for the last two years, but Municipal Committee Handwara has done nothing to fix them or put in new ones.

Residents said that owing to broken lamps, the whole town, including Handwara market, was completely in the dark.

“Tradespeople and commuters must deal with difficulties as a result of broken lamps. Even though requests have been made, the authorities are refusing to fix the lights that were placed a few years ago. Nearly the whole town is enveloped in darkness in the evening, according to a merchant.

Residents said that the government sometimes gave them false optimism.

They urged the relevant authorities to look into the situation and replace or repair the broken streetlights as soon as possible.
