The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has ordered the release of four inmates from preventative custody and has invalidated the detention orders under the Public Safety Act.

Detention orders against Imran Ahmad Ganie, Sakib Akbar Waza of Khulbagh Gulshanpora Tral Pulwama, and Shakir Bashir Kumar of Shopian were overturned by a bench presided over by Justice Sanjay Dhar.

District Magistrate Baramulla issued an order for Ganie’s PSA detention on April 9, 2022, while District Magistrate Pulwama issued an order for Waza’s preventative custody on December 16, 2021. The District Magistrate in Shopian issued an order for Kumar’s PSA detention on June 28th, 2022.

On his own plea, Manzoor Ahmad Wani of Gratbal Qaimoh Kulgam was successful in having the detention order issued by the District Magistrate of Kulgam on August 27, 2022 overturned by a bench of Justice M A Chowdhary.
