SRINAGAR: The officials who made the statement here on Thursday said that the crucial 434-kilometer Srinagar-Ladakh highway, which had been sealed for thirty days due to extreme snowfall, has reopened for one-way traffic from the Minimarg side. The highway had been blocked for thirty days.

As a precautionary step, the authorities had made the decision to immediately block the road because of the existence of potentially dangerous conditions at critical sites such as Drass, Zojila Pass, ChiniNallah, Captain Morh, and Sonamarg.

Both Project Vijayak and the Border Roads Organization (BRO) were responsible for the urgent snow removal work that was done in order to clear the way.

The passage of around 36 light motor vehicles from the Minimarg side was confirmed by an official, and it is expected that more traffic warnings and cut-off times would be imposed in the near future.

“Only Tata Mobiles transporting essential commodities are permitted until road conditions improve,” he said to reporters. In addition to this, he said that strict safety measures have been implemented, such as the installation of anti-skid chains, and that cars that do not have these chains are not permitted to pass.
