In Baramulla, police apprehend a fraudster acting as a CBI official

Srinagar, November 5: On Sunday, in the Kunzer region of the Baramulla district of north Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended a guy posing as a CBI official and confiscated home belongings and phony ID cards from his hands.

A police spokesperson said in a statement that Farooq Ahmad Wani, a resident of Wassun Bangil, filed a written complaint with Police Station Kunzer detailing a series of incidents involving several people, including one who identified himself as a CBI officer and promised to place him in the ward’s NDA.

The spokeswoman said, “As the situation developed, the accused individuals resorted to theft, absconding with various household items, including a geyser, bedsheet, inverter, CCTV camera, LCD, and other valuables from the complainant’s residence.”
The gang is accused of having robbed the complainant of a considerable amount of money, namely Rs 40 lakhs.

Based on Wani’s complaint, Police Station Kunzer has opened an investigation and filed a case in accordance with the applicable legal provisions.

The statement said, “The person posing as a CBI officer was arrested by the police team of Police Station Kunzer after prompt action resulted in the recovery of falsified documents, including the alleged CBI card, and some stolen house items were also recovered from the accused house.”

It is also said that community members are urged to report any suspicious activity to the police and to avoid falling for such con artists.
The statement said, “Our consistent action against anti-social elements shall assure community members that the police have resolved to act tough against such inimical elements.”
