Jammu, Sep 10 (IANS) The crime division of the J&K Police said on Sunday that it has discovered a significant fraud involving the use of stamp paper in which two solicitors and three stamp merchants were engaged.
According to a statement from the crime branch, searches were conducted at five locations in the R.S. Pura, Greater Kailash, and Bidhnah sectors of the Jammu district by the economic offences division of the crime branch.
“FIR number 89/23 has been filed against the implicated individuals under sections 420, 465, 468, 471, 409, and 130-B of the IPC.
Following the filing of a written complaint, in which the complainant claimed that significant losses had been caused to the revenue department via a fraud involving stamp sheets used in court documents, several documents, computers, laptops, and other items were taken during the searches.
“The complaint claimed that part of the scam was the issue of phoney agriculture certificates, which are necessary records for the acquisition and disposal of agricultural property. These credentials are often fraudulently given out to people who have no real link to agriculture.
Furthermore, some dishonest people are deceptively utilising stamp sheets repeatedly, maybe in collaboration with Sub Registrar’s Office staff.
“After conducting a preliminary inquiry, the investigating team discovered that the accused’s acts had seriously damaged the state exchequer and the tax department’s finances as well as the legal integrity of property transactions.
“This organised gang operated via a network of people, including some Revenue Department employees, real estate brokers, suppliers of stamp paper, commission brokers, and other middlemen.
According to the statement, “it is clear that these individuals are working in close coordination to facilitate the issuance of agriculture certificates in exchange for sizeable sums of money.”
