In SRINAGAR, August 21, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha opened the 3-day National Workshop on ‘Panchayat with Good Governance’ today.

Virtual conference attendance included Giriraj Singh, Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

The event also unveiled the “Meri Panchayat App,” a unified m-governance platform.

Union Minister Shri Giriraj Singh praised the UT Administration for improving J&K’s three-tier Panchayati Raj System.

He added the “Meri Panchayat” App is the new good governance and digital India to empower rural India.

Lt Governor Shri Manoj Sinha welcomed Panchayats, stakeholders, and domain experts from across the nation to Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the three days of discussions on example solutions, convergent activities, and best practises associated with Localization of Sustainable Development Goals would improve Panchayat governance.

“Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji has given us a vision of ‘Gram Uday se Bharat Uday’ and it should be our sincere efforts to realise the limitless potential and possibilities of rural areas, to change the destiny of the country,” the Lt Governor remarked.

The Lt Governor discussed the UT Government’s three-year initiatives to foster responsive, inclusive, participatory, and representative decision-making at all levels.

Making villages Aatma-Nirbhar may help accomplish Sustainable Development Goals. We are committed to empowering, strengthening, and increasing PRI engagement in development projects, the Lt Governor added.

We’re trying to make Panchayats economic hubs, he remarked.The requirements of the people are driving speedier development initiatives. The Lt Governor stated that infrastructure development is bridging the divide between rural and urban J&K, and timely project completion proves that rural community is prospering and growing inclusively and sustainably.

The Lt Governor also urged people and stakeholder agencies to collaborate on Panchayat Level indicators for improved governance. He said the government is providing resources and empowering Panchayats to build inclusive development.

The Lt Governor emphasised the UT Administration’s commitment to the last man in line and rural living standards.

He stated we’re working together to offer public services and government projects that meet all communities’ needs.

The Lt Governor stated grassroots self-employment programmes and Self Help Groups formed and maintained by rural women have great potential to make rural society self-reliant and raise family incomes by establishing more employment and self-employment options.

He stated that we have provided land to the landless and pucca houses to suit their housing requirements.

In his presentation, Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Sh Kapil Moreshwar Patil urged stakeholders to work together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Operating Guidelines of National Capability Building Framework for PRIs and Service Level Benchmarks and Model Contracts for Gramme Panchayats for Water Supply and Sanitation were also released.

DDC Chairpersons Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; Sunil Kumar, Union Secretary, Panchayati Raj; Ms. Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner/Secretary, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj; and PRI members from J&K and nationwide attended.
