Srinagar, September 1: Baramulla Police have detained four people after busting an interdistrict marriage fraud ring. According to authorities, the matter was reported when several reputable Kunzer neighbourhood residents made an application.
According to a police statement, the accused were acting as intermediaries during wedding festivities, according to the news source Kashmir Dot Com. They reportedly sent images of other young ladies over WhatsApp with the bogus pretence that they were prepared for marriage. The victims on the opposite side were persuaded by these people to accept marriage offers, fix the mehar money, and make payments. Despite the cash transactions, no weddings took place, and the money was not reimbursed, the statement said.
According to police, it has been discovered that this gang of fraudsters selected their victims using carefully chosen photographs of young women. They were able to amass a sizeable sum of money—7 lakh 38 thousand rupees—from unwitting victims under the guise of mehar payments and commission.
The accused have been identified as Laal Hussain, son of Mir Mohammad, resident of Ward No 06, Jaranwala Gali, Rajouri, Irshada Begum, daughter of Gulzar Ahmad Goger, resident of Mori Kalakot, Rajouri, Ab Rahman Rather, son of Gh Qadir, resident of Dar Mohalla, Drang, Budgam & Ab Khaliq Dar, son of Ab Rahim Dar, resident of Gulab Bag, Pati Poshker, Khag Budgam, it said.
“The Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been violated, and the Police Department has filed a FIR. The statement claimed that as soon as an inquiry was launched, the complete fraudulent scheme was discovered.
According to the statement, four people have now been detained in connection with this investigation.
