New Delhi, March 25: The Assam Tribune Newspaper reported that the STF has arrested Jammu-based IIT Assam student Sohail Ur Rehman for further questioning.
This follows the arrest of IIT Guwahati student Tauseef Ali Farooqui for reportedly supporting ISIS on social media.
The Kamrup Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak accompanied the STF team to Lohit Hostel at IIT Guwahati to question Sohail about his possible ties to the terrorist outfit.
Tauseef Ali Farooqui, detained for online ISIS support, remains in police detention. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said security officials are also investigating another IIT Guwahati student, raising worries about intellectual radicalization.
This comes after two ISIS commanders were arrested in Dhubri area, showcasing regional authorities’ counterterrorism efforts.
