J&K Police begin year-long campaign on drug-related terrorism in Baramulla; 318 arrests have been made thus far

Baramulla police have filed 187 first information reports (FIRs) under the NDPS Act in the last six months.

Baramulla, July 16: Baramulla police claimed they have arrested 318 drug peddlers and recovered vast quantities of narcotics during a recent operation on narco terror in several places in the Baramulla district, including Uri near the Line of Control (LoC).

According to the authorities, drug traffickers are being used as part of a scheme by handlers in Pakistan to bring illegal substances into Jammu and Kashmir and hook the local youth.

Amod Ashok Nagpuri, the senior superintendent of police in Baramulla, stated, “Baramulla is a border district and cross-border drug and weapon smuggling is big challenge for us.” Baramulla police have filed 187 First Information Reports (FIRs) under the NDPS Act during the last six months.

Approximately 284 drug dealers were apprehended, and an additional 34 high-profile dealers were detained under PIT NDPS/PSA. 318 drug dealers have been apprehended so far, and the system is working as intended. The goal of this initiative, as stated by the SSP, is to “make Baramulla a drug-free district” by eliminating the drug culture there.

The SSP said, “We will not allow nefarious designs of Pakistan t succeed,” in reference to Pakistan’s stated goal of pushing narcotics across the Kashmir Valley. In a recent operation, police in Baramulla froze the assets of known drug traffickers.

Furthermore, the SSP Baramulla said that specialised teams have been sent out to collect vital information on the drug mafia active in the area.

The SSP acknowledged the critical need to address the increasing drug-related crimes in the area and described the preventative steps being taken by the Baramulla Police to counter the drug trade in the district.

“We urge the public to report any drug traffickers they encounter or suspicious acts they believe are connected to the distribution of illegal drugs. The SSP said that with everyone working together, they could make the community safer and drug-free.

Baramulla Police have sent special squads made up of seasoned police and undercover operatives to covertly obtain information about the drug cartel’s infrastructure. The teams’ goal in infiltrating these criminal networks is to collect evidence that may be used to carry out efficient crackdowns and bring the perpetrators to justice. The citizens of Baramulla have praised the police department for taking this action,” the SSP said.
