Srinagar, March 25: Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, swore in Justice Muhammad Yousuf Wani in the courtroom on Monday.

Justices Tashi Rabstan, Rajnesh Oswal, Vinod Chatterji Koul, Sanjay Dhar, Javed Iqbal Wani, Rahul Bharti, Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, and Wasim Sadiq Nargal took the oath in Srinagar and Justices Atul Sreedharan, Sanjeev Kumar, Sindhu Sharma, Puneet Gupta, Muhammad Akram Chowdhary, and Rajesh Sekhri via video from Jammu.

The Registrar General of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh led the oath-taking ceremony.

Shahzad Azeem read the notification from the Government of India, Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice (Appointments Division), the President’s Warrant of Appointment, and the Lieutenant Governor’s Letter of Authorization authorizing the Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh to administer the oath of office to the newly appointed judge.

Former High Court judges, Advocate General, J&K, Deputy Solicitor General of India, Srinagar, Secretary, Department of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, District Judges posted at Srinagar headquarters, members of various Bars, civil and police administration officers, and Registry and Member Secretary, Legal Service Authority, J&K staff attended the ceremony.
With the promotion, the High Court of J&K and Ladakh has 16 judges, including the Chief Justice.

Muhammad Yousuf Wani, born in Brenti Batapara, Dialgam, Anantnag district, south Kashmir, attended Government High School Brentis and graduated in science from Government Degree College Anantnag.

He became an advocate in 1990 after earning his LLB (Hons) from the University of Kashmir in 1989.

He practiced law in Anantnag courts from 1990 until 1996. He became a judge permanently in December 1997 after passing the J&K Public Service Commission’s KCS (Judicial) Examination.

Served as Munsiff Sumbal in 2000 and district judge in 2008.

He served as Munsiff Sumbal Sonawari, Sub Judge Uri, Chief Judicial Magistrate Shopian and Budgam, Additional Anti-Corruption Judge Srinagar, Additional District Judge Baramulla, and Principal District and Sessions Judge Pulwama, Ganderbal, Budgam, and Baramulla.

He also served as High Court Srinagar Registrar Judicial, District Consumer Protection Forum President, and MACT Presiding Officer.

He joined Judicial Special Tribunal Srinagar.

Under his watch, hundreds of civil and criminal cases were decided.

Wani’s father, late Ghulam Muhammad Nabi Wani, was a diligent and wonderful instructor who helped him succeed.
