In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr. Karan Singh, a former Sadr-e-Riyasat of Jammu and Kashmir, asks for the reopening of Sharda Peeth PoK along the lines of the Kartarpur corridor.

Dr. Karan Singh has proposed that initially three members of the Committee may be permitted to go to PoK and begin some pooja there on a holy day in a letter dated October 13, of which a copy has also been sent to the Save Sharda Committee.

Earlier, the Save Sharda Committee Kashmir Regd. paid a visit to Dr. Karan Sigh, a former Sadr-e-riyasat and Rajya Sabha member, at his Chankyapuri house in New Delhi and informed him about the recent Sharda Puja and other recent events at the LoC Teetwal Kashmir.

A Sharda Shawl and a photograph of Sharda Peeth POK were given to the last surviving member of the Maharaja royalty of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir by the delegation’s leader, Ravinder Pandita, who also served as the committee’s head.

He had been informed by the Committee about the state of temples, especially those in the valley, and had been asked to write to the Prime Minister to advocate the resumption of the Sharda Peeth pilgrimage.

The holy land and shila of Sarvagnya Sharda Peeth PoK were given to him on this occasion by Ravinder Pandita, Head/Founder of the Sharda Committee, with the help of PoK civil society activists.

From November 17, 1952, until March 30, 1965, Dr. Karan Singh, at 92 years old, served as the state’s Sadr-e-riyasat. He eventually became the state’s governor in 1965.

His father, the erstwhile Maharaja Hari Singh, joined India following the split.

Dr. Karan Singh praised the Save Sharda Committee’s civil society initiative efforts. According to a press statement from the office of Dr. Karan Singh, “We thank our last legend of maharaja anarchy for taking interest in reviving the pilgrimage to Sharda peeth.”
