December 19, Srinagar: According to authorities, Kashmir is still experiencing an extraordinary cold wave, with the lowest recorded temperatures of the season for Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the valley’s Anantnag district, at minus 6.9°C and minus 3.7°C in Srinagar.

According to a meteorological department official here, Srinagar’s lowest temperature today was 4.2°C lower than it was the previous night—0.5°C—and 2.2°C lower than usual for J&K’s summer capital.

Numerous locations in Srinagar and adjoining areas saw frozen water bodies and choked water taps as a result of the extreme weather.

In contrast to the previous night’s 0.8°C, Qazigund recorded a low of -4.2°C, he claimed. According to the official, the lowest temperature in Kashmir’s gateway town was 2.6°C below average.

The official said that Kupwara town in north Kashmir had a low of minus 3.8°C, which was 1.4°C below average, as opposed to minus 2.2°C the night before.

The official said that Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 6.6°C, down from minus 8.0°C the night before, and that the temperature was 1.8°C below average for the well-known north Kashmiri skiing area.

He stated that Jammu had a minimum temperature of 5.7°C, down from 6.1°C the night before, and that it was 3.2°C below typical for the winter capital of J&K. Banihal recorded 6.3°C, Batote 3.5°C, and Bhaderwah minus 0.4°C.

MeT has forecasted “mainly dry” and chilly weather in J&K until December 22.
