Srinagar, December 11: Parts of Kashmir were covered in thin fog, but the valley was still in a deep freeze. Srinagar recorded a low of 4.8 degrees Celsius.

Officials from the Meteorological Department say that J&K will mostly have dry and cold weather until December 16. They said, “Dry and cold weather is likely to last until December 16th.” They also said, “Many places in Kashmir Division are likely to continue to have light to moderate fog.”

Authorities from MeT said that today’s temperature in Srinagar was 4.0°C lower than usual for this time of the year. “The mercury settled two notches below yesterday’s temperature of minus 4.4°C and surpassed the season’s lowest of minus 4.6°C on the weekend in Srinagar,” they said.


They said that the Gulmarg ski resort in Baramulla had a low of -3.6°C, down from -4.2°C the night before. The temperature at the resort was 0.1°C below average.
In Pahalgam, Anantnag district, the temperature dropped to 4.7°C at night, down from 5.5°C the night before. This was 1.5°C cooler than usual for the popular vacation in south Kashmir.

Officials said that Kokernag, which is also in south Kashmir, had a low of -2°C, down from -2°C the night before. This meant that the temperature was 1.7°C below average for the area.

They said that the lowest temperature in Qazigund was -3.4°C, down from -3.3°C the night before. This was 2.6°C cooler than the average lowest temperature in Qazigund.

MeT officials said that Kupwara in north Kashmir had a low of -4°C, down from 3.4°C the night before. That’s 2.2°C cooler than usual there.

The lowest temperature in Jammu was 9.7°C, down from 7.1°C the night before. This was 0.3°C below average for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Other places that recorded lower temperatures were Banihal at 1.4°C, Batote at 4.1°C, and Bhaderwah at -0.9°C, they said.
