A clerk at the District Industrial Complex in Kupwara was detained on Tuesday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau “while demanding & accepting the bribe of rupees 5,000 in lieu for helping in processing the case of complainant’s wife,” according to a report from Srinagar.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint that claimed the complainant had helped his wife apply to participate in the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) by creating a file for the activity of “Tailoring & preparation of Readymade Garments.” On 06-8-2021, he submitted an application to DIC Kupwara. He said that for the last two years, his wife’s PMEGP case has been delayed and that he has been forced to go for one formality after another. Two years were lost in the case of the complaint because to a lack of bribe under PMEGP.

According to the statement, the complainant also claimed that the officers/officials stationed at DIC Kupwara failed to process the genuine case of his wife, and that no action was taken on the said file despite the passage of considerable time. Now he’s being requested to bribe the case’s approver and have the loan money released from Punjab National Bank.

“The complainant also said that one of the workers of the District Industrial Centre, Kupwara, Saifudin Wani is now asking the bribe of Rs. 5000/- from him. The statement states, “He filed a formal complaint with ACB, asking for legal action to be taken against the individuals or entities he named in his complaint.

Case FIR No. 05/2023 was filed at the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Baramulla, “as the contents of the complaint prima facie disclose the commission of offence punishable U/S 7 of the PC Act 1988 by accused public servant namely Safudin Wani, posted in the office of DIC Kupwara,” the statement reads.

“A trap team was formed during the investigation, and they set up a situation in which the accused DIC Kupwara official would be caught demanding and accepting a bribe of five thousand rupees.” All legal procedures were followed before his immediate arrest.

The statement continues by saying that investigations are underway to determine “the role of other officials/officers of the DIC Kupwara” and “the circumstances under which the case of the complainant’s wife was delayed for two years and was approved immediately after receipt of the bribe amount.”
