Terrorists and their backers get a clear message that their activities will be met with repercussions when property is attached as a form of punishment.

In the Kupwara area of north Kashmir on Tuesday, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police seized the property of a terrorist who had been operating from Pakistan.

The SIU Kupwara seized 6 kanals and 3 marla of land belonging to one Adul Rashid Qureshi alias Farooq Qureshi of Kachama Kupwara, who is based in Pakistan, according to a statement cited by the news outlet Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Statement: “After extensive intelligence gathering and meticulous investigations in case FIR No.276/2022 of Police Station Kupwara registered under sections 120-B, 121, 121-A, 122, 123 IPC & 17, 18, 18-A, 18-B, 20, 38, 39, 40 of UA(P)A, the SIU identified and subsequently attached the terrorist’s land measuring 6 Kanals and 3 Marlas located at multiple locations within the district at village Kachama.”

The Police Department took this action, so they say, to cut him off from his criminal network and prevent him from doing any further terrorist crimes.

Since escaping to Pakistan in the early 1990s, Farooq Qureshi has been a constant danger to Jammu and Kashmir’s stability. He now serves as the launching commander for the terror group Al-Barq out of PoJK, where he is based. His planning and execution of several acts of terror have resulted in untold misery and the deaths of innocent people in the valley.

Police in Jammu and Kashmir have been aggressively looking for him in an effort to stop his damaging behaviour, the report said.

The property seizure sends a powerful message to terrorists and their followers that they will not be ignored or penalised for their activities. It reaffirms the Police Department’s commitment to eradicating the causes of terrorism and its supporting structures.
