Landslide strikes Udhampur construction site, leaving two people dead and six wounded

Udhampur, July 18: On Sunday, a structure under construction in the Kallar neighborhood of the Udhampur district fell due to a landslide, injuring six additional workers and killing at least two of them, according to an official.

According to Kashmir News Observer (KNO), an official news source, construction was underway at the building near Kallar when it was struck by the landslide.

He said that shortly after the event was reported, the Police and SDRF conducted a rescue operation at the scene that resulted in the recovery of two workers who had gone missing under the rubble and six employees who were wounded.

Later, the bodies of the missing were found, but the district hospital has pronounced both of the construction workers who were buried under the rubble dead.

Anirudh Kumar, a son of Nand Kishore from Madhya Pradesh, and Rakesh Kumar, a son of Naseeb Chad from Ramnagar, Udhampur, have been named as the deceased. Devi Din Kushwah, Shoket Ali, Druvish Sharma, Master Mian, Shamiya from Jojara Talab, and Thakur Dass, a native of Udhampur, have been named as the injured.

At the district hospital in Udhampur, the wounded are receiving care, according to an official.

While there, Additional Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Joginder Singh Jasrotia paid a visit to the scene and promised to fully examine the facts behind the occurrence.
