She stressed the importance of such large-scale programmes in enhancing the mental and physical well-being of women, which in turn boosts their performance at work. She said that although the effort is admirable, an education campaign on sanitation waste management is very important from an ecological and health standpoint. She also encouraged the males in the department to create a welcoming environment by being sensitive to and responsive to the concerns of their female coworkers.

In her opening remarks, SP Leh, PD Nitya said that women make up 30 percent of the police force (out of a total of more than 600), and that the initiative’s goals include fostering gender parity in the workplace and destigmatizing menstruation. She disclosed that the NRLM Leh Self-Help Groups “Chand” had supplied the biodegradable sanitary pads, and that the sanitary boxes will be placed in all police stations for anybody to take. She also said that the Leh Police Department had developed their own vending machine design. In her address, Ayesha Malo, president of the Anjuman Moin Ul Islam, praised District Police Leh for its efforts to promote menstrual health and cleanliness for the well-being and empowerment of women.
