Five people were reportedly in danger of dying when two residential buildings fell in Bani, Kathua district, as a result of heavy rain.

Srinagar, July 19: Jammu and Kashmir’s lieutenant governor, Manoj Sinha, has expressed sorrow over the deaths caused by a home collapse and landslides brought on by heavy rains in the Bani neighbourhood of Kathua district.

“I am deeply saddened to learn about the tragic incident caused by heavy rains in Kathua, in which a number of people have lost their lives and many others are feared trapped under the debris,” the Lt. Governor said in a statement of sorrow. There are now ongoing rescue and relief efforts. I have instructed the district administration to provide the wounded people medical care as well as whatever support that can be given to the mourning families who have lost loved ones.

“Due to severe rains, two homes owned by Mushtaq Ahmed and Abdul Qayum in Bani’s Surjan Morha Aruad Block fell. According to news outlet KNO, a Station House officer of the Bani Police Station said that five people, including children, were buried under these dwellings.

He said that rescue efforts were underway to recover the remains of three people, namely Zareen Begum, Sahabaz, and Arbaz, while the bodies of two others, named as Tabseem Bano and Mohammad Arif, had already been found.
