In Srinagar on August 21, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, blamed mainstream parties for the killings of thousands of innocent Kashmiris for rejecting the land for landless programme.

These folks can’t stomach peace because they don’t want it. They encouraged street violence and school and college closures. They killed 40,000–50,000 innocent J&K residents.” LG Sinha didn’t name any political party or individual.

Sinha asked Sarpanchs, Panchs, BDCs, and DDCs to name a single PMAY case where land or a house was given to a non-J&K resident at a three-day national workshop on Panchayat with Good Governance at the Convention Centre. Clarified, “Land for non-J&K residents caused great commotion. No non-J&K inhabitant has received PMAY land or house.”

Sinha highlighted the region’s four-year transformation. Noted, “Routine street violence has gone, and schools and institutions are open year-round. Though most left for home shortly after dusk, restaurants and hotels remain open till 10 pm today. The change is… This change is major.”

He highlighted some organisations’ ongoing efforts to disrupt peace by instigating street violence. Panchayats are crucial to efficient government, and Sinha highlighted current efforts at that level. He said, “Every panchayat will achieve a well-governed village. Panchayati Raj has simplified funds, functions, and functionaries, and people are benefiting.
