December 1, Kupwara: Long-lasting power outages are negatively impacting the everyday lives of residents in several villages in the Ramhall region of the Kupwara district in north Kashmir.

Over the last ten days, there have been unplanned power outages on a regular basis, making the situation worse. Additionally, energy has been available for just eight to ten hours each day.

According to the inhabitants, there is a serious power outage in their community every year.

A significant portion of the populace suffers on a daily basis as a consequence.

The winter has barely begun. They replied, “At the height of winter, one can appreciate how much worse things may become.

As for the Power Development Department (PDD), the inhabitants complained that they could scarcely see their lights shining during peak hours and that the department was not following the curtailment plan.

“Let’s say our energy delivery window is set for five to eight o’clock at night, but we only get one hour of power in four hours. Lilam, Vilgam-based social activist Nadeem Ahmad Khan said, “I’m not sure what happened to the government’s claims of better electricity this year.”

The majority of individuals in Ramhall light their houses with gas or candles at night because they cannot afford the cost of purchasing an inverter. We still face a downward spiral even with our monthly payment of Rs 720, the man said.

Along with the massive power outages that have affected the whole Ramhall belt, the local schoolchildren are also in great distress.

“We are losing out on basic comforts and struggling academically due to the lack of electricity.” Because we often forget to turn off our phones, which prevents us from taking online courses, the severity of the issue is evident, according to one student.

The whole region was receiving just 8–10 hours of energy, much to the dismay of the populace, according to Block Development Council (BDC) Chairman Muhammad Yasin of Vilgam, who spoke with Greater Kashmir.

Power restrictions, he said, were becoming worse every day and had an impact on people’s lives.

In order to improve the electricity supply in Ramhall, he requested prompt action from the district government.
