Kupwara, August 25: On Friday, the Mining Plan Approval Committee met under the leadership of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan.

There were flimsy debates on mining on scientific patterns throughout the summit.

Before enlarging or contracting the Minor Mineral Block No. 2 Shedipora – Rukhmachwari (Bakhihakar to Kachwara Talri- Nallah) region, the DDC instructed officials of Geology and Mining and other line departments to visit the site for ground verification and validation.

The Geology and Mining department was instructed by the DDC to include all line departments.

Speaking at the event, Ayushi emphasised to all committee members that it is important to make sure that mineral extraction is carried out according to established criteria without harming the environment.

District Mineral Officer Kupwara informed the chair that during the FY 2022–2023, a total of Rs. 2,16,8714 in revenue was earned, along with the realisation of a compounded offence of Rs. 91,64542 and the seizure of 483 cars.

He said that during FY 2023–24, a total of Rs. 10, 196797 in income was produced, and that 206 cars were confiscated for illegal mining in the Kupwara area. Additionally, a compounded offence of Rs. 39,02612 was recovered.

The conference was attended by the Joint Director of Geology and Mining for Kashmir, Khawaja Nisar, former I&FC engineers from Kupwara and Handwara, as well as other relevant authorities and staff.
