Despite giving England “a great headache,” Moeen Ali believes 24-year-old Yorkshireman Harry Brook will play his way into the World Cup team.

With 1,692 runs for his country in the last 12 months at an average of 49.76, Brook is the best hitter in the country. He has scored five half-centuries in his last 10 international innings across all formats. For the Northern Superchargers, he scored 105 runs off 42 balls versus the Welsh Fire, making him the Hundred’s top male batter this season.
However, he is running out of time to play his way into England’s 15-man World Cup team before the September 28 deadline for submitting a final list. England’s one-day international series against New Zealand begins in Cardiff on Friday.

The future is bright for Harry Brook, who is “playing great at the minute,” according to Moeen. He played well enough to go back into the lineup and was just unfortunate this time. The way he plays is amazing. I am sure the captain and the coaches are thinking, “This is a great headache to have on the side.”

In contrast, Moeen does not think Dawid Malan should make way if Brook’s argument for inclusion becomes unavoidable. Malan’s position is being questioned after he got 50 in the first T20 encounter against New Zealand but then just 2 runs in 15 deliveries in his next two innings. The series will conclude on Tuesday at Trent Bridge.
Malan, according to Moeen, “has never let the team down. He is a lifetime run-scorer. Runs are a given when he is on the field since he is such a good talent. He is human; therefore, he has missed a few chances in these two innings, but he will put up big numbers for England in the future.

England’s batting coach Marcus Trescothick stated, “Eventually it will click back into place” for Dawid Malan, and he also indicated that he believed Liam Livingstone might play his way into form before the team left for India on September 27. Although Livingstone averaged 58 in the first White Ball Hundred in 2021 and earned a spot on the white-ball team, he has struggled to find his form in this year’s tournament, averaging only 16.66 with the bat in two brief appearances against New Zealand.
Before we know it, he will be back, and he will have a huge role to play,” Trescothick promised. Let us give Liam a little bit of time and see what the package he brings—the all-round cricketer we know he is and what we have seen from him in the past—turns out to be. We have seen what he is capable of. Let him have the ball, let him play in the field, let him hit a home run, and let him win the game for you.
