Srinagar, August 6: The Jammu and Kashmir and UT Health Departments have been instructed to increase screenings for non-communicable diseases in conjunction with Independence Day festivities.

The Department of Health and Medical Education in Jammu and Kashmir has mandated that all divisional Health Services Directorates develop detailed strategies for implementing NCD awareness and screening camps at all Health and Wellness Centres in the UT. Noncommunicable illnesses including diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and cancer will be prioritised in these initiatives. To put it another way, these initiatives will be carried out “in mission mode with high impact and visibility for the welfare of the general masses” as part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” festivities.

According to the directive, the decision to target NCDs during Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was made in a meeting presided over by the Chief Secretary on August 3, 2023. Jammu and Kashmir’s health care providers have been urged to expand their services to underserved areas and to regularly update their department’s Whatsapp group (H&ME) and online NCD portal with reports and proof of their efforts. The incidence of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and others is rising rapidly in Jammu and Kashmir.
