Kupwara, September 11: Due to a shortage of qualified physicians, patients at the DNB-accredited Sub District Hospital in Kupwara have been suffering.

The hospital has been operating without ENT and dermatology specialists for a while, which has caused a lot of difficulty for the community. Residents said that they were suffering greatly as a result of SDH Kupwara’s lack of ENT and dermatology physicians. They said that the only options for treatment were to go to the District Hospital Handwara or have a private consultation.

Residents said that they were pleased with SDH Kupwara’s DNB certification and thought that the government would send expert physicians to the facility, but over two years had passed since the hospital was modernised. Even still, it continues to run without professional medical personnel.

“Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara provides care for thousands of people who have been abandoned in the hands of privately employed medical professionals. Even SDH Kupwara continues to be the first option for patients from border regions like Karnah, Machil, Keran, Budnamal, Jumgand, Kumkadi, and others, but they suffer a lot since there aren’t enough ENT and dermatology physicians in the area, a local informed Greater Kashmir.

“An ENT specialist used to work here, but his replacement wasn’t found when his attachment was terminated a year ago. Every time we speak with hospital staff, we are informed that there are no ENT or dermatology positions at the facility. Authorities are unable to assign dermatology and ENT specialists until the positions are formed, he said. Residents have once again urged the government to send ENT and dermatology experts to SDH Kupwara in order to alleviate the suffering that people are now experiencing.

The positions of an ENT physician and a dermatologist have not yet been established, according to Greater Kashmir’s interview with Medical Superintendent SDH Kupwara Dr. Mohammad Shafi.

“I brought up the matter with higher-ups. I’m hoping that something significant will happen soon,” he said.
