INDIA stands for the opposition group Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance.

New Delhi, August 4: On Friday, the Delhi High Court gave notice to the Centre, the Election Commission of India (ECI), and a number of opposition political parties regarding a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) requesting a directive to opposition political parties to forbid the use of the acronym INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) for their political coalition.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Election Commission of India (ECI) were consulted by the justices Satish Chander Sharma and Amit Mahajan on Friday, and a hearing date of October 31, 2023 was set.The court also declined to issue any temporary injunctions prohibiting the aforementioned political parties from using the abbreviation I.N.D.I.A. while the case was ongoing.

However, the court also requested responses from the opposition parties listed on the petition, including the Indian National Congress, TMC, RLD, JDU, Samajwadi Party, DMK, Aam Aadmi Party, JMM, NCP, Shiv Sena (UBT), RJD, Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), PDP, JKNC, CPI, CPI (M), MDMK, Konganadu Makkal Desia Katchi (KMDK),

Through Attorney Vaibhav Singh, the petitioner Girish Upadhya claimed that several political parties are using the national flag of India as the symbol of their alliance, which is a further calculated move to win the support and votes of uninformed voters and as a means of igniting political animosity, which in turn will result in violent political conflict.

The petitioner claimed that the opposition front formed by the leaders of 26 parties to challenge the BJP in the next elections is known as INDIA, which stands for Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance.

According to the complaint, political parties are utilising the abbreviation “India” with the intention of harming our magnificent country, India (Bharat), both domestically and on a number of international forums. This will only serve to undermine India’s goodwill.

According to the petition, if the word I.N.D.I.A. is used by Indian and international media as an abbreviation rather than in its full name (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), it would confuse innocent persons. If the alliance, the I.N.D.I.A. (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), is defeated or loses the general election of 2024, it would be projected that India as a whole is defeated, which would hurt the sentiment of innocent citizens of the country once more and could result in political violence in the nation.

The petition continued that the actions of these political parties may severely influence the peaceful, open, and fair voting process during the future general election in 2024, which might expose the populace to uncalled-for violence and also harm the nation’s law and order.
